Guidelines and
Policies for the Kerr Award
Format of the essay
- The paper may be submitted
electronically or in hard copy.
- There are no restrictions on length.
Criteria for judging
- The topic is important and timely.
- The paper is written clearly, in a professionally appropriate style.
- The writer's positions are thoroughly supported with appropriate
argument and evidence.
- The argumentation is cogent and clear.
- Facts and law are thoroughly researched and documented.
- The paper goes beyond facts and law to address the underlying value
questions.
- The paper represents the author's own
work.
Jury
The papers will be judged by a committee composed of three Business School faculty
members (from both
tenured and non-tenured ranks) and one Ph.D. student. A majority decision of the judges will be
final.
Timetable
- The competition will be formally announced each year in early December,
prior to the end of
Mini 2.
- Papers will be due no later than Friday of the first week following spring
break.
Award
MBA Prize
- The award is $1000.
- If the winner is a graduating student, the award will be given at
Commencement.
- If the winner is a returning student, then the award will be
announced at Commencement
and given in the fall.
- The winner's name will be added to the plaque
displayed in the trophy case outside the
Commons.
BSBA Prize
- The award is $1000.
- If the winner is a graduating student, the award will be given at
Commencement.
- If the winner is a returning student, then the award will be
given in late April and announced
at Commencement.
- The winner's name will be added to the plaque
displayed in the trophy case in the
undergraduate wing of GSIA, across from room 137.
